That’s spilled wine on our stroller.
When we have time on the weekends, George and I enjoy a nice glass of wine together.
Our imbibing took a hiatus during pregnancy and the early weeks of parenting. Between the exhaustion from nighttime feeds and anxiety over safely enjoying alcohol while breastfeeding, neither of us wanted it. Once Ellie began to sleep through the night (mostly) and I learned more about the guidelines surrounding breastfeeding and alcohol, we welcomed wine back in.
While Ellie’s preferences are ever-changing, one constant is that she loves her stroller. Even during Ellie’s most tearful months, she was pretty much always happy on walks. As such, George and I came to see evening strolls as a perfect opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine together if we were in the mood. This idea came after a few failed attempts to enjoy a glass at home. We are mindful not to use alcohol to cope with challenges or “numb” as Brene Brown describes well in her TED Talk here.
We make sure to set out for our stroll directly after I feed Ellie to allow the greatest window before her next feed. I always measure out a serving of wine so I know how much I’m drinking as well as pay attention to the time so I know when I can nurse Ellie next. We do have a small stash of frozen pumped milk if Ellie gets hungry sooner than expected.
George and I love pondering random topics. We struggled to find time for thought-provoking conversations in the early weeks of parenthood. You know, those conversations beyond blowouts and nap attempts? While we don’t need wine to have interesting conversations, the 2 pair nicely and happen to mesh well with an activity that Ellie almost always is on board with.
If you see us out strolling on a weekend evening, we probably have wine in our stroller cup holders 🙂
