Last weekend we celebrated my 38th birthday. 38?! Hard to believe, but grateful to be here!
In line with our pared way of living, we prefer to celebrate with experiences rather than tangible gifts. We also enjoy special meals or takeout. For Ellie we do typically gift 4 items, following the philosophy of something to wear, something she needs, something to read and something she wants. We follow this for both birthdays and Christmas.
We kicked off my birthday with an early anatomy scan…we are expecting our 2nd baby in July! It was such a special gift to see our baby. Due to my advanced maternal age, it is recommended that we have a few extra ultrasounds. We are super grateful our baby is looking healthy and strong. Though it’s tempting to find out our baby’s gender, we’re going to delay the surprise until birth like we did with Ellie.
We spent the remainder of the day in the town where my appointment was – Folsom. Yes, that’s also the home of Folsom Prison. George and Ellie treated me to a picnic in a park with sandwiches from Pushkins.
Next, we headed to Seaquest. Ellie got to feed a variety of different sea and land creatures.
We finished out the day at home with takeout from Pho Vegan Asian Cuisine. Cupcakes from Pushkins rounded out my special day.
George insisted we continue my birthday celebration on Saturday. He treated us to a beautiful day exploring San Francisco.
In addition to experiences and special meals, we like to use our birthdays to take stock of our limited wardrobes and treat ourselves to any replacement or additional items we need. I like to order from companies that use sustainable and/or organic materials such as Pact and Tasc. I also like Athleta which has some sustainable options and is a certified B Corps company.
This is 38!
