Hello From Maine

In the beginning of May, we set out from Oroville, CA to Old Orchard Beach, ME. With a toddler in tow and me 31 weeks pregnant, we weren’t too aggressive, and stretched the drive out over 7 days.

For me, it was extra enjoyable compared to other long moves because we stayed together each night at a campground. During previous moves, George drove much longer days than us and stayed at truck stops. Ellie and I stayed in hotels. While hotel stays can be enjoyable, I didn’t miss rolling luggage in each night. It was so nice to regroup in our home instead.

Most nights, we ate canned soup and/or hummus with veggies and tortillas or crackers. Every night, I prepared fruit, veggies and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches to pack in the cooler for the next day of driving. This really helped to simplify things. We weren’t reliant on finding food every night, but did take advantage of replenishing our stock when we were parked near a grocery store.

We are very fortunate to have had uneventful travels. Ellie was a trooper; we took turns picking what we listened to. She also stayed entertained with books and a new age Etch-A-Sketch.

It was really neat staying in a different RV park each night. I was surprised by the amenities most parks had, especially given a lot of them are only open for 6 or so months a year. Ellie enjoyed playing on the playgrounds and even jumping pillows before we hit the road in the morning. She also did a wonderful job helping us set up and pack up.

We stayed at six RV parks along the way:

New Frontier RV Park – Winnemucca, NV

Lyman Journey KOA – Lyman, WY

Cabela’s Campground – Sidney, NE

Des Moins West KOA – Adel, IA

Elkhart RV Resort, LLC – Granger, IN

Canandaigua/Rochester KOA – Farmington, NY

We didn’t have pre-set plans and were very fortunate to find vacancies along the way. I imagine the timing of our travels in early May helped luck be on our side.

We don’t know where we are going next or what traveling will look like with a newborn, but we’ll figure it out sometime before early October. Baby will be here soon; we are at 38 weeks today! We are so grateful to share this special time with family.
