Overdue

This time it was me who shouted out, “It’s a girl!” As soon as I felt her come out, I clearly saw I was fooled again – I had been carrying a girl.

Birth felt completely different this time around despite being unmedicated and in a hospital just like Ellie’s. For one, we were anxiously awaiting labor to begin. Ellie arrived right on her estimated due date, while Maeve kept us on our toes for eight days past her EDD. Being of advanced maternal age, we knew induction was a strong possibility as the days ticked by. We are so grateful we were able to avoid that.

…I started this post in August 2022 and here it is October 2023 🙂 I wish time would slow down. That’s one of the things I miss about long distance running. Time seemed to slow down, especially during challenging moments. I grew to appreciate how one minute could feel so long while pushing through physical effort yet so short during most other parts of the day.

Before this tangent gets too long, I’ll jump into a few bullet points to bring this blog up to date.

After a very special summer in Maine, we moved to Red Bluff, CA in October 2022.

Sweet summer by family and the beach.
To sunny California in the fall.

By the end of the month, we were on the move again to Folsom, CA. This is the city I used to drive down the mountain to seeking refuge from winter in early 2022 when we were living in Pollock Pines.

We’ve been enjoying the beautiful trails and walkability. Walking to the farmers market is one of my favorite Saturday traditions in this season of life.

George and I continue to value our minimalistic ways, though it requires much discussion and teaching with our sweet Ellie. The world we live in certainly does not support minimalist living or another value of ours – plant-based eating.

Our 5th wheel remains our home, though we’re getting antsy for a home without wheels. While a bit more indoor space would be nice, we would really like to have a yard of our own.

We still don’t know where we would like to settle. Having parents on opposite coasts makes it an extra hard decision. At least they’re in coastal states as traveling has made my love for the ocean ever more clear.
