A few weeks ago, we enjoyed a long weekend in Monterey. George and I both love the vibe there and of course the beach and amazing coastal views.
George had taken us on a detour there after Christmas 2021 when were unable to get back to our camper in Pollock Pines due the road closures after a major snow storm.
Ellie and I had a taste of the beauty and funkiness there and were excited to go back. George also wanted to take Ellie to the aquarium.
Our favorites from the weekend included beach walking.
Unfortunately we did not catch a clear sunset, though it was still beautiful.
Lovers Point.
Happy Girl Kitchen. Had to make 2 stops there :). My favorite is their avocado toast on their gluten free bread. Wow just wow. The bread is the star. It is chockfull of seeds and nuts, with delicious flavor and texture. So nourishing.
Julia’s. George and I shared a few items that we brought back to the hotel. None of them were extraordinary, but they were fresh. The star item for us was the vegan garlic and lemon aioli that came with the roasted artichoke.
El Cantero. The Famous Chile en Nogada was good and quite interesting. The poblano seemed to be stuffed with something similar to the Impossible ground beef which I’m not a fan of, but otherwise I enjoyed the dish. The dressing on the salad and fresh corn tortillas were the highlight for me.
Revival Ice Cream. They had a few plant-based flavors and wow it was good!
We even saw the Blue Zones Monterey project headquarters. I’ve been fascinated by the Blue Zones for years, so this was really exciting to me.
Monterey (or a nearby town) is one place I wouldn’t mind settling down.
